Richard Scheinin on Third World Love

I missed last week’s Bay Area concerts by Third World Love, one of my favorite bands on the scene these days. But then again, I’m missing everything lately. Don’t ask me how long it’s been since I last went to a show. Seriously, don’t. You’ll just make me cry.

Third World Love is an innovative Israeli-American jazz quartet that blends middle eastern and modern-jazz grooves with ecstatic fluidity. I was crazy about their 2006 release, Sketch of Tel Aviv (Smalls Records), and even put it on my top-10 list for the year. Their latest is New Blues on Anzic Records, which I haven’t had a chance to check out yet.

Anyway, today’s San Jose Mercury News has a review of 3WL’s show at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, written by music critic Richard Scheinin. Sounds like it was a good one. Come back soon, guys!
